The art of driving in winter conditions

One of the biggest causes of accidents during adverse winter conditions is poor driving. Preparing your vehicle for the winter season, understanding how to drive in difficult weather, and knowing how to react if stranded or lost on the road are vital to safe winter driving.

In recent years, UK motorists have had to deal with increased flooding as well as the usual frozen locks, non-starts and hazardous icy roads. Unfortunately it is hard to predict what we could be in for this year, but if it is to be sleet and snow in abundance, we'll all need to be on our mettle and heed some sound driving advice.

Before setting off make sure you have performed the crucial checks on your car and that the vehicle has been recently serviced by experts and deemed to be safe.

Green Flag also recommends that you plan long trips carefully and listen to local weather forecasts for warnings of icy or snowy weather. Travel during the day when possible.
