The Mock Theory Test

The UK driving theory test was first introduced in 1996 as a paper based multiple choice test, until in 2000 the computer based theory test was introduced. Since then the most significant changes since the introduction of the driving theory test have been: annual revisions to the theory test question bank, an increase in the number of questions from 35 to 50 questions he introduction of the hazard perception element of the test and in April 2014 the withdrawl of facilities to take the theory test in a number of other languages.

Mock Theory Test Questions 2014

The first part of the theory test consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Most of these questions give you from 4 to 7 possible answers and it may be that more than one answer is correct. Where there is more than one correct answer, all the correct answers need to be indicated to score for that question. Each correctly answered question scores one mark.

The test is done on a touch screen computer at a dedicated driving theory test centre. There may be a number of people taking the test at the same time. A total of 40 minutes is allowed for the test and the pass mark is 43 out of 50.

Hazard Perception Test

At the end of the question element of the test, there is a short break before the hazard perception part of the tests starts. A full explanation of the test is given before the first hazard perception video clip is shown. In total there are 13 video clips with a total of 15 developing hazards that need to be identified. The quicker you identify the hazard, the more points you score. The pass mark for hazard perception is 44 out of 75. The DVSA are phasing out the old video clips and introducing CGI clips.

Changes

Since 2012 the actual questions are no longer published and instead there is an official question bank of sample theory test questions, with slightly different wording to the actual questions on the live theory test.
